Identify a Rug

How to Identify Your Rug

The easiest way to identify your rug is to locate a tag on the back; however, some antique Oriental rugs may be missing the tag.

Synthetic rugs typically have a tag stating the material they are made of. The backings of synthetic rugs are usually firm.

A rug is likely to be wool if the pattern on the back of the rug matches that of the front. A wool pile is soft to the touch on both sides of the rug.

Silk rugs have a lower pile than wool and synthetic rugs. They also generally have very intricate designs and a shimmering effect. Silk material heats up when rubbed vigorously.

Occasionally, rugs may be made of mixed materials. Our techs are very skilled in identifying rugs, so you can be sure we will provide the best care possible for all of your unique rug needs!
